McAlester Fortnightly, a Federated volunteer Club within the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Oklahoma (GFWC) since 1904, is designing the 120th Spring Banquet.
A yearly event, two scholarships will be awarded to the chosen high school graduates continuing their education within an Oklahoma higher learning institution.
GFWC OK State President Charlene Ridgway will attend and bring greetings from GFWC International and from State Club elected officials.
Keynote speaker, Sarah Fry, is a McAlester High School counselor organizing the “Buff Closet.” Fry will provide narrative results of the “Buff Closet” along with information as to donations needed to refill the supply closet.
Brenda Calahan, Fortnightly president, also announced the “Done in a Day Project” during this event will allow members to donate feminine hygiene products for the school closets.
The 2025 GFWC McAlester Fortnightly Spring Banquet will take place at the Puterbaugh Center Crystal Hall, May 20, 2025.
The Casual Gourmet Department will provide refreshments. The Arts and Crafts Department invited the speaker.
The Literary Department will provide the hall setup and decorations using a book décor on tablecloths.
Books with folded pages are the inspired centerpieces in either floral or as a candle with a GFWC motto tag: “Be a candle in the window if you cannot be a star in the sky.”
Fortnightly members may invite guests to this event. Tickets must be pre-purchased from the Department Directors by May 12 to obtain a headcount for refreshments.
Additional information is available at gfwc.org.
